QuickImageViewer (qIV) — Privacy Policy
What the app stores, and where
- Settings — your preferences, window position, panel layout and recent folders, in the Windows registry under your own user account.
- Logs — only when you switch logging on. Written to files beside the executable and never sent anywhere.
-
Crash dumps — if the app crashes it writes a
.dmpfile to your disk and tells you where it put it. It stays there. Attaching one to a bug report is your decision to make, every time.
The application is portable: it installs nothing, runs no background service, and leaves nothing behind but the registry key above.
What leaves your computer
Nothing, unless you switch on the Local Server. The viewer itself opens no connection, checks for no update, and contacts no server. There is no analytics endpoint, no crash reporter and no licence check, because there is nothing to license.
The optional Local Server (F9) is what lets the Android app or another copy of qIV drive this one. It is off until you turn it on, and when it is on:
- it listens on the address and port you choose, on your own network;
- only the devices in your AllowList may connect at all;
- connections are encrypted, and a password proves who is connecting;
- commands that would alter files — delete, move, save — cannot be sent over it. The viewer refuses them by design, not by setting.
What travels over that connection travels between your own machines. It does not pass through any service of the developer's, because there is not one.
Your files
The app reads the images and folders you open, on your own disk, to display them. It does not index your drives in the background, upload anything, or report what you looked at.
Children
The app collects no personal data from anyone, of any age.
Source code
QuickImageViewer is free and open source under the AGPLv3. Every claim on this page can be checked against the source rather than taken on trust.
Changes to this policy
If the app's behaviour changes in a way that affects this policy — for example if a feature is added that transmits something new — this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it.
